Abstract

The present study compares the psychological type and temperament profiles of 188 male and 124 female Church of England parochial clergy surveyed during 2017 and 2018 with the profiles of 626 clergymen and 237 clergywomen serving in Church of England reported in an earlier study published in 2007. The data suggest a significant shift in psychological profile with increases in the Epimethean Temperament (from 31% to 42% among clergymen and 29% to 37% among clergywomen) and with decreases in the Apollonian Temperament (from 35% to 29% among clergymen and from 50% to 37% among clergywomen). These shifts in psychological profile suggest shifts in ministry styles.
